Microsoft Teams

DevGrid Assistant brings source-backed engineering intelligence into a personal Microsoft Teams chat. Ask who owns an application, investigate vulnerability status, review portfolio health, or find software that needs an owner. Answers can include supporting context and links back to the relevant records in DevGrid, and follow-up questions keep the same conversation.

What you can do

Ask questions about software ownership, vulnerabilities, dependencies, and engineering health without leaving Teams.
Follow up in the same chat. DevGrid keeps the conversation so later questions can refer to the earlier answer.
Open linked applications, components, portfolios, people, vulnerabilities, and other records in the DevGrid web app.
Review how an answer was produced. Show details expands the reasoning steps and listed sources.
Send a suggested follow-up. When DevGrid has a next question, it appears as a button under the answer.
Rate an answer. Use the Teams feedback control on a response. A written comment is stored with that rating.
Sign out of DevGrid from the same chat and reconnect later.

DevGrid Assistant is a personal chat. Each person opens the app and connects their own DevGrid account. The current release does not post into team channels, join group chats, place calls, handle files, or send proactive notifications.

Requirements

A DevGrid account with access to a configured DevGrid workspace. Answers use the data that account can already see in DevGrid.
Microsoft Teams, on desktop or mobile, with permission to install apps.
A Microsoft Teams administrator, if your organization restricts third-party apps. The administrator allows DevGrid Assistant (publisher: DevGrid) before users can add it.

No separate DevGrid administrator setup is required inside the Teams app. Account access, single sign-on, and workspace permissions are the same ones already used at app.devgrid.io.

How it works

You install DevGrid Assistant and open a one-to-one chat with the app.
Connect DevGrid opens a browser sign-in. That sign-in uses your DevGrid login, including your organization’s single sign-on when it is configured.
After you approve the connection, Teams and DevGrid are linked for your user. The chat confirms that you are connected.
Questions you send in that personal chat are answered from your DevGrid workspace. Named records in the answer link to app.devgrid.io when DevGrid can resolve them.
The link stays in place until you sign out or the connection expires. You do not sign in again on every question.

Allow the app for your organization

Skip this section when people in your tenant can already install apps from the Microsoft Teams app store.

Sign in to the Microsoft Teams admin center.
Go to Teams apps > Manage apps.
Search for DevGrid Assistant.
Open the app and set its availability to Allowed.
If your organization uses app permission policies or setup policies, add DevGrid Assistant to the policies assigned to the people who should use it.

Users can then find the app in Teams, or open the Marketplace listing and choose Get it now.

Install and connect your account

In Microsoft Teams, select Apps.
Search for DevGrid Assistant and open it.
Select Add. Teams opens a personal chat with the app.
Send any message, or choose Help from the command menu. If your DevGrid account is not connected yet, the app replies with Connect your DevGrid account.
Select Connect DevGrid. A browser window opens.
Sign in with the DevGrid account that should answer questions for you.
When the browser shows You're connected, return to the Teams chat.

The chat then sends a welcome message and a few starter prompts:

Choose a prompt or type your own question.

Connect additional people

Each person repeats the install and connect steps with their own DevGrid account. One person’s connection does not grant access to anyone else in the tenant. DevGrid still applies that user’s existing workspace permissions.

Ask questions

Type a question in the personal chat the same way you would ask a colleague. The command menu also lists common starting points:

While DevGrid is working, the chat shows progress. The finished answer arrives as a message. When sources or reasoning steps are available, select Show details on the card under the answer. Up to three Try next buttons can send a follow-up without retyping it.

Names that DevGrid recognizes become links to the matching record in the DevGrid web app, including applications, components, portfolios, people, teams, repositories, and vulnerabilities. Select a link to continue the investigation in DevGrid.

A follow-up in the same personal chat stays on the same DevGrid conversation. Starting a new question in that chat can refer to the previous answer, for example “What is its vulnerability status?” after an ownership question.

Help and sign-out

You can type these commands or pick them from the command menu. A leading / or ! is optional.

`sign out`	Disconnects DevGrid. `log out` and `disconnect` do the same thing.

After you sign out, the chat offers Reconnect DevGrid. Choosing it runs the browser sign-in again.

Help is available before you connect an account. Questions about your workspace require a connected DevGrid account.

Feedback

Use the feedback control on an answer when Teams shows it. A thumbs-up or thumbs-down is sent to DevGrid. If you include a written comment, that comment is stored with the rating so DevGrid can review the response.

Remove the app

In the personal chat, send sign out and wait for You're signed out of DevGrid. Signing out revokes the connection between that Teams user and DevGrid.
In Teams, open the app’s … menu and remove or uninstall DevGrid Assistant.

To use the app again, install it and select Connect DevGrid.

FAQ

Why is DevGrid Assistant missing from the Teams app store?

Your Teams administrator has not allowed it, or your app permission policy does not include it. Ask the administrator to allow DevGrid Assistant from publisher DevGrid. The Marketplace product id is WA200011734.

I selected Connect DevGrid and the browser says the session expired.

Return to the Teams chat and select Connect DevGrid again. The sign-in link is only valid for a short time.

The chat says my DevGrid connection has expired.

The saved sign-in is no longer valid. Select Connect DevGrid on that message and sign in again. Your next question uses the new connection.

The chat says DevGrid sign-in is temporarily unavailable.

Wait a moment and send the question again. Your existing connection is left in place when sign-in itself is unavailable.

I connected the wrong DevGrid account.

Send sign out, then select Reconnect DevGrid and sign in with the account that has access to the workspace you want to query.

Can my team share one connected account?

No. Each person connects their own DevGrid user. Answers respect that user’s access in the DevGrid workspace.

Can I add DevGrid Assistant to a channel?

This release is personal chat only. Add the app for yourself and ask questions in the one-to-one chat. Channel posts, group chats, meetings, calls, and file uploads are not part of the app.

An answer took a long time and then stopped.

Teams limits how long one reply can stream. If a request passes that limit, DevGrid sends one message: This request took longer than Teams allows. Please try again. Send a narrower question, or open the linked record in app.devgrid.io.

What if an answer is incomplete or wrong?

Use the feedback control on that message, then check Show details for the sources DevGrid used. You can also open the linked record in the DevGrid web app and compare it with the chat answer. For help with access or missing data, contact your DevGrid administrator or [email protected].

What information does the app use?

DevGrid Assistant uses:

The Teams identity of the person chatting with the app, so the conversation stays linked to the correct DevGrid account.
Messages that person sends in the personal chat with DevGrid Assistant.
The connected DevGrid account, including the workspace data that account is allowed to read.
Feedback ratings and any comment submitted with a rating.

The app sends that information to DevGrid over the internet to produce the reply. It does not read your mailbox. Privacy details are in the DevGrid privacy policy. Use of the app is covered by the DevGrid terms of use.

Who do I contact?

Email [email protected]. Include your DevGrid workspace, the question you asked, and whether you were able to connect your account.
